Haas family home movies - 1929 to 1969

After our mother passed away in 2010 we converted our family’s 16mm and 8mm reel-to-reel home movies to digital. These span 1929 to 1969, filmed in New York City (especially Brooklyn), Rockland County (especially Suffern) and other places. I share these movies so people might see family, friends, home, etc. Please share these with others. To make easier to watch I edit to themed segments of about 5 minutes each. I have posted quite a few, but have very many more to edit and post.

Introduction

To see all movies you may also go to my YouTube channel:  David W. Haas, M.D.

Where to find the movies

I’ve added people’s names to many movies (I’ll add more names as you tell me), but you can only see names if viewed on a computer (not smart phones, tablets or TVs). You can make the names appear or disappear with the YouTube settings cogwheel (at bottom of image) “Annotations On/Off”. Movies are best viewed with YouTube set to high resolution such as 1080pHD.

How best to view

My father and grandfather never filmed with sound. When my daughter, Anna Catherine Haas, first saw the unedited movies she was inspired to write “Find Your Home”. The lyrics are what she imagines her grandmother, Catherine Anna Haas, would tell her children (“This world isn’t made for me anymore, but I don’t need much more, just to hear you say you’ll go and find your home. Go and find your home.”). Anna’s official music video is at Find Your Home. For Anna’s homepage please visit annahaas.com.

Introduction

One special movie is “Our Suffern - A Remembrance Through Home Movies”. This compilation of our family's home movie footage was created to commemorate the 40th Reunion of the Suffern High School Class of 1975. It is 41 minutes in length, and was premiered on October 3, 2015 at the historic Lafayette Theatre in downtown Suffern, NY.
